About product

Mantis Miniatures 1:35 Hands up! figure scene

A resin figure set in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Mantis Miniatures. It captures a scene of capture from the Ardennes in 1944: an American infantryman and a German soldier with his hands raised, surrendering. It is a pair of figures to be assembled and painted, well suited as a narrative element in a diorama.

The real subject

The scene refers to the fighting in the Ardennes at the turn of 1944 and 1945, where American and German units clashed in winter terrain. Capturing and disarming an opponent was an ordinary part of infantry fighting; the scene therefore serves as a matter-of-fact depiction of a situation of the time, not as a celebration of either side.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts to remove mold release residue, cut off the casting blocks with a saw or a cutter and sand with respiratory protection. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Build the winter uniforms up in layers and finish the skin and the expressions with a brush.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of dioramas from the fighting in the Ardennes in 1944
  • Anyone interested in narrative figure scenes
  • Modelers who paint skin and expressions
  • More experienced modelers used to working with resin

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The scene captures an American infantryman and a German soldier with his hands raised, from the fighting in the Ardennes in 1944.

The figures are resin; the parts are glued with super glue, and before painting it is a good idea to wash them to remove the mold release agent.

Working with resin and painting skin calls for experience, so we recommend the set rather to more advanced modelers.
