A scenic set for a diorama in 1:35 scale from MiniArt, built around the equipment of a working corner in a home. It is not a kit of machinery and not parts to be fitted to a model — these are stand-alone objects of a scene, built and painted separately, which create a living interior on a base. MiniArt has an extensive line of diorama accessories in this scale, from traffic signs through furniture and containers to the equipment of shops and interiors; this set covers the theme of present-day work from home.
Interior dioramas and vignettes are a discipline of their own today, in which the point is not the machinery but a believably furnished space. A home office is a rewarding subject precisely because it is contemporary and intimately familiar to a viewer — every detail that is right shows immediately. The set suits a cutaway of a living room, vignettes with civilian figures and also as an accessory to other interior sets in the same scale. The objects can also be placed in parts and used merely to complete a larger scene.
First lay the objects out on the base and only then glue — with an interior scene the arrangement decides the result, not the building itself. Clean the parts up, remove the parting lines and try the joints dry. Paint according to the surface the object is to represent: wooden surfaces with a glaze and a dry brush, metal parts in a subdued metallic shade with a wash, plastic cabinets matte or semi-matte, and displays and glass, by contrast, with a gloss clear varnish over a dark ground. An interior will take only mild weathering — instead of rust and mud, work with dust, fingerprints and slight wear of the edges where an object is normally picked up.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
