Add-on parts from the brand Royal Model for a model of the Soviet IS-3 heavy tank, whose designation is also transliterated as JS 3. The set refines the hardware and the sheet-metal elements of the vehicle. The set is intended for the Tamiya kit.
Soviet designers completed the IS-3 in the spring of 1945, practically at the moment the fighting in Europe was ending. It brought two solutions that influenced the whole next generation of armored vehicles: a wedge-shaped bow made up of three sloped plates, called the pike nose for its shape, and a low rounded turret with no sharp edges. The armament was a 122 mm gun with two-piece ammunition, so the rate of fire stayed low while a hit was devastating. When it appeared at the Allied parade in Berlin in September 1945, its appearance took Western observers by surprise and fed into the requirements for post-war designs.
The rounded surfaces of the turret call for parts pre-bent into a curve, not broken at a single point. Draw surplus glue off with the tip of a paper tissue before it dries. Let the Soviet green show through where the crew would normally move about. Traces of welds on the bow can be suggested with a drawn-out plastic profile.
