The fast American tank destroyer 1:35 M 18 Hellcat as rendered by Royal Model: photo-etched metal, resin, wire and clear film. You obtain the base kit separately.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from Royal Model combines photo-etched frets, resin castings, wire and clear film for the driver's instruments. It covers the outside as well as the inside of the hull and the turret. The sheet with the fenders is deliberately thicker than the rest, so that once fitted it looks right in scale.
The Hellcat arose from the American idea that a tank destroyer should get where it is needed sooner than anybody else. Torsion bar suspension, a radial aircraft engine and a design lightened to the utmost gave it over eighty kilometers an hour on the road; nothing on tracks matched it at the time. It paid for that in armor: the side did not withstand even a shot from a small-caliber gun and the turret stayed open at the top. It entered history in September 1944 at Arracourt, where its crews caught a German counterattack by surprise in the fog.
The open turret reveals the rounds, the seats and the controls, so finish and age the inside before fitting the roof parts. The grille over the engine wants a dark wash, otherwise it merges into a uniform surface. The tracks and the bottom of the hull will take pronounced dust.
It completes a plastic kit that you obtain separately. Paints and glues are not in the package.
