A photo-etched set intended for a model of the Italian C1 Ariete main battle tank. A modern tank is full of thin grilles, mesh screens over the radiators, sheet-metal covers and small grab handles that injection-molded plastic can only suggest. Metal replaces them at an accurate thickness and the model gains markedly in credibility, especially in the view of the engine section. It is based on the dimensions of the Trumpeter kit.
The tank was developed in the 1990s by a consortium of Italian defense companies and the vehicle entered service in 1995. It carries a 120 mm smoothbore gun, a four-man crew and composite armor; the emphasis fell on mobility and on fire-control electronics. The Italian army operated it among other places on peacekeeping and stabilization missions outside Europe. The Ariete remains the only main battle tank of modern Italian design, which makes it an interesting target for collectors of modern equipment.
The single-color finish of contemporary vehicles looks flat, so work with shading of the individual surfaces and with gentle highlighting of the edges. Spray the screens over the radiators darker first, so that the sense of depth is not lost beneath them. Settle the dust mainly on the lower surfaces and around the running gear.
Apart from the metal parts you will find nothing else in the package.
