About product

Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 (1:35, Border Model)

A modern injection-molded plastic kit of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 fighter in the unusual aircraft scale of 1:35 from Border Model. It is a new mold with a richly detailed cockpit, finely engraved panel lines and a faithfully rendered nose. The box offers optional external stores (gun pods and rockets) and an included resin pilot figure with its own decals. The 1:35 scale is unusual among aircraft, where 1:32, 1:48 and 1:72 predominate, but with this manufacturer it is a completely deliberate and genuine choice that combines well with figures and vehicles in the widespread 1:35 diorama scale.

The real subject

The Bf 109 was one of the most important fighters of the Second World War and formed the backbone of the German fighter force throughout the conflict. The G-6 version, nicknamed the Gustav, was the most widely built variant of the whole series. It was powered by a DB 605 series engine and its hallmark was the characteristic fairings (the Beule) over the guns in the nose. It was used from 1943 on every front, by day and by night, and became the most frequently modeled form of the 109.

Building and painting tips

Cut the plastic parts from the sprues and glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Paint the detailed cockpit and bring out its detail before you close the fuselage, and mask the clear canopy while spraying. Apply primer and paints with an airbrush, put the decals on a gloss coat and pick out the panel lines with a wash. Wash the resin pilot figure free of any mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Luftwaffe fighters and of Second World War aircraft
  • Modelers drawn to greater detail and the out-of-the-ordinary 1:35 scale
  • Anyone interested in dioramas where a model meets figures and vehicles in 1:35
  • More advanced builders, because of the mix of plastic and a resin figure

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

With aircraft 1:35 really is unusual, as 1:32, 1:48 and 1:72 predominate. Border Model, however, makes this Bf 109G-6 in 1:35 quite deliberately, so that it matches the popular diorama scale of figures and vehicles.

Yes, the box contains a resin pilot figure with its own decals. It is recommended to wash it free of the mold release agent before gluing and to use cyanoacrylate glue.

Yes, the basis is a classic injection-molded plastic kit, supplemented with a resin pilot figure. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
