Photo-etched fenders in 1:35 scale for models of the Panzer III and the StuG III from the Tamiya kits. Thin metal sheet replaces thick plastic parts and will take realistic bending.
Responsibility details are not available.
The StuG III assault gun was created on the chassis of the Panzer III tank, and that is why the two vehicles share a whole series of external parts. The fenders over the tracks are among them: they were made of thin sheet, in the field they bent, cracked and often whole sections of them were missing from the vehicles. It is exactly by them that a model meant to look like a machine in service can be told from a model that looks as if it had come out of the production hall.
Photo-etched fenders in 1:35 scale for models of the Panzer III and the StuG III from Tamiya. Thin metal sheet holds the scale thickness that an injection-molded part cannot: the edges stay crisp and the profile slim. The extent of the parts and their placement on the model are in the manufacturer's instructions.
The parts are held to the fret by small tabs; cut through them with a sharp blade on a hard surface and never break them out. Make the bend in a bending tool or between the jaws of flat pliers in one go along the whole length of the edge. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minimal amount. With fenders a small deformation pays off: a bent corner, a dent from the track or a missing piece will bring more than the best painting. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a primer, otherwise you will strip the finish during handling.
For modelers who build German tracked vehicles in 1:35 scale and want to swap thick plastic for sheet on a conspicuous external part. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
