A palm for hot climates: 1:35 Palm tree from the Italian brand Royal Model moves a 1:35 scale scene to North Africa, to the Mediterranean or to the tropics.

A single well-built palm tells the viewer more than a label on the display case: the scene takes place where it is hot. The Royal Model element combines a resin trunk with a faithful bark texture and a photo-etched metal fret with individual palm fronds that are bent and assembled into a crown. It is intended for 1:35 scale.
The date palm goes with the oases and towns of North Africa and the Middle East, the coconut palm with the shores of the Pacific islands and of Southeast Asia. For a modeler that means a wide range of subjects: the fighting in Libya and Tunisia, the landings on the Pacific islands, French Indochina, Vietnam and modern conflicts in the Middle East. A palm never stands without a context, though; around it there is usually trampled earth, low brush or a mud wall.
The trunk is not brown but rather gray-beige, with a pronounced texture left by fallen fronds; layering a dark glaze and a dry brush brings it out best. Before painting, free the metal fronds of grease and give them a primer. Never paint them in a single shade: the lower tier tends to be dry, yellowed to rusty, the upper one deep green. Bend them unevenly and twist them slightly, because a perfectly symmetrical crown gives the model away at first glance. Finally, unify the foot of the trunk with the terrain using a dust pigment.
The element is supplied without a finish; the package does not contain paints, glue or terrain materials.
