This set from MiniArt is intended for finishing off dioramas and display-case scenes in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of a vehicle or a set of figures but a collection of plastic parts that complete a road, a checkpoint, a construction site or a closure. The parts are supplied unassembled and unpainted and suit civilian and military scenes alike.

What the accessory suits

In practice plastic barriers are used to separate traffic lanes, to close a road and to mark out checkpoints. They tend to be hollow and are filled with water or sand so that they stay in place, which shows in their shape as well. On a diorama they therefore work well as an element that leads the viewer's eye and at the same time explains why a vehicle in the scene is standing still or slowing down. They find a use with modern military and civilian subjects.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts off the sprue with nippers and level the gate remnants with a file, so that a smooth surface is left. They are glued with ordinary cement for polystyrene plastic. Apply the base coat thinly, so that the fine edges and lettering are not flooded. Signal colors look more believable if, once dry, you lighten them slightly with a dry brush and add a deposit of dust or mud at the foot of the barrier. Scuffed places and impact marks are drawn in with a fine brush.
