About product

Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.J Nibelungenwerk 1:35 (MiniArt, interior edition)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German medium tank Pz.Kpfw.IV in the Ausf.J version from the mid production of the Nibelungenwerk plant (autumn 1944). It is a demanding interior kit in 1:35 scale from the maker MiniArt with a fully detailed inside to the hull and the turret, an engine, an ammunition set, hatches that open, individual track links, clear and photo-etched parts. The package offers several marking options.

The real subject

The Pz.Kpfw.IV was the most numerously built German tank of the Second World War and it went through a whole series of changes in the course of the conflict. The Ausf.J version represented the closing, simplified-for-production batch: to save effort the electric drive for traversing the turret was removed, so that it was turned by hand, and room was added for a larger supply of fuel for a greater range. The vehicle was armed with a 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun with a long barrel, effective against Allied as well as Soviet armored vehicles. Later examples received side skirts of wire mesh.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the interior of the hull and the turret and the running gear before you close the hull, or the details will stay hidden. Use a liquid cement for plastic and work in sub-assemblies, and glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay a primer on before painting and spray with an airbrush. For weathering, layering washes into the recesses and pigments for mud and dust effects on the running gear and the underside of the hull work well.

Who the model is for

  • Experienced modelers who want to make use of the full interior
  • Collectors of German armor of the Second World War in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone interested in the late variants of the Pz.Kpfw.IV tank
  • Makers of dioramas who want to show the hatches open and the inside

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes, it is an interior edition with a detailed inside to the hull and the turret, an engine and an ammunition set. We recommend painting the inside before you close the hull.

The Ausf.J was the closing simplified batch. It left out the electric drive for traversing the turret in favor of hand operation and offered a larger supply of fuel for a greater range.

Because of the full interior, the photo-etched parts and the individual track links it is a more demanding build, which we recommend rather to more experienced modelers.
