An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet KV-2 heavy tank in its later production form, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It captures the characteristic angular turret with its 152 mm howitzer in the lower, simplified shape that series production carried alongside the KV-1 tank. It contains a hull, turret and running gear worked out in detail, plus decals. The early KV-2 Model 1939 with the tall big turret is a separate kit, which is worth comparing.
The KV-2 was a Soviet heavy tank of the beginning of the Second World War, built on the KV-1 chassis. Its striking angular turret was filled by a 152 mm howitzer intended to destroy fortifications. The later series machines received a lower turret that was simpler to produce, which replaced the tall turret of the early form. The KV-2 was among the most heavily armed tanks of its day, but it was heavy and demanding in service.
With a tank it pays to assemble and paint the running gear, the wheels and the tracks before the hull is closed. Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting and spray the base finish with an airbrush in thin coats. Volume is added by picking out the edges with a dry brush, dark washes in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the chassis and the tracks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
