1:35 Schwimmwagen Trippel Road Wheels No.2 (Phoenix-Harburg) is a set of resin wheels with the Phoenix-Harburg tread pattern for a model of the German Trippel amphibious car.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of resin wheels for a model of the German Trippel amphibious car in 1:35 scale. The castings replace the plastic wheels from the kit and have a crisper tread pattern, a legible sidewall and the flattening of the tire under the weight of the vehicle. This variant reproduces the tread pattern of the Hamburg rubber works Phoenix of Harburg. The set is not a model of the vehicle; it is an addition to an existing kit.
The amphibious cars of the designer Hans Trippel of Molsheim were built from the end of the 1930s and from 1938 were taken by the German army. This was a larger and heavier machine than the later VW Type 166, with a closed boat hull and a propeller at the stern. Only a few hundred were made. Tires for military vehicles were supplied in parallel by several German rubber works and the tread pattern differed between them enough to be recognizable in period photographs.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, or the paint will not hold on them because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, level the face with abrasive paper and protect your breathing while sanding. Glue the wheels with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Tone the tire with a dark gray with a hint of brown; pure black swallows the detail. Apply a light pigment to the lower part of the tread according to the ground the vehicle is standing on.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
