The single figure 1:35 Selfie soldier captures a present-day soldier photographing himself with a phone in the middle of duty.

This standalone resin figure from the Italian brand Royal Model has reached for a subject long missing from display cases. The soldier holds the phone in an outstretched hand, his head is tilted and the whole stance belongs to civilian life rather than to a training ground. It is exactly that everydayness that makes the figure interesting: among figures in combat poses it catches the eye at once, because it is doing something everybody knows today.
Military modeling stayed with the 1940s for a long time and present-day subjects made their way into it slowly. The portable phone, meanwhile, transformed the rear areas of units as thoroughly as the radio once did. Pictures from bases appear before a commander can decide about them, and taking such a photograph has become an ordinary part of the day. The figure captures that shift without pathos and without irony.
A stance with an outstretched arm puts the emphasis on turning the head correctly, so glue the arm on only after the neck has dried and keep watching the direction of the gaze. A present-day field uniform tends to be printed with a fine pattern, which at this reduction it is enough to suggest with a few patches of soft transition. Leave the display of the phone flatly light, with no gloss and no reflection, or it looks like a little mirror.
The figure is unpainted and intended to be finished yourself.
