About product

The real subject

The Panther Ausf. A is one of the production versions of the German medium tank of the Second World War. The sides of the hull were protected by hung armor plates, called in German the Schürzen; they hung on a rail above the running gear and were to catch shells before they struck the side of the vehicle itself. The surface of the armor was covered in one period of the war with Zimmerit, that is a coarse paste which was to make it impossible for magnetic charges to hold. It is precisely Zimmerit that gives a vehicle the characteristic broken-up surface that the smooth plastic of a kit does not have.

What the set contains

Replacement side plates with a three-dimensional texture of Zimmerit for a model of the Panther Ausf. A in 1:35 scale. The set is listed for the early as well as the late form, so you choose the shape matching the machine you are building. The extent of the parts and their assignment to a particular kit are given by the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

Cut away surplus material with a sharp blade a short distance from the part and carefully sand the remainder, so that the texture of the surface stays whole. Cyanoacrylate glue holds reliably on accessory parts; glue for polystyrene need not take on them. Glue the plates so that they hang parallel to the ground and at the same height; feel free to leave individual pieces missing or bent, as on a combat-worn vehicle that looks credible. Before painting, wash the parts and degrease them, apply a primer and then lighten the base shade or go over it with a wash, so that the texture of the Zimmerit stands out.

Who it is for

For modelers who build German vehicles and want to have Zimmerit in a convincing form without applying putty themselves. Working with the set assumes a part-built model and a sharp knife. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A coarse paste which the Germans applied to the armor of vehicles for a certain time of the war, so that magnetic charges would not hold on it. On a model it shows as a broken-up surface.

They hang on a rail along the sides of the hull above the running gear and protect the side of the vehicle. On a model glue them parallel to the ground and at the same height.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Glue for polystyrene need not work on accessory parts, so do not count on it, and degrease the surfaces before gluing.

Apply a primer and the base shade, then accentuate the surface with a wash or a light lightening of the edges. The texture will come to the fore as a result.
