Printed tires with a flattened contact patch for the Stryker M1296, 1:35

An add-on set of 3D-printed tires for a model of the American Stryker wheeled armored vehicle in the M1296 version, in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the vehicle but a replacement part. A flattened contact patch means that the bottom of the tire is modeled squashed, as if the weight of the vehicle were pressing on it. The finished model then stands on its wheels naturally instead of touching them at a single point.

Building and painting tips

Cut the supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as possible and sand the rest; do not snap them. The printed material is hard and brittle, so work without pressure. It is bonded with super glue. When fitting them, make sure the flattened part is at the bottom and parallel with the ground, otherwise the vehicle stands crooked. A tire is not black but rather a very dark gray, and once painted it comes alive with dust on the tread and greasy traces around the hub.
