The extensive metal upgrade Sturer Emil, part one, in 1:35 scale refines the superstructure and the small equipment of the German heavy self-propelled gun. Target kit: Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
A more extensive metal upgrade for a model of the German self-propelled gun, of the kind the Italian workshop Royal Model builds. Photo-etch makes it possible to render the thin plates of the superstructure, the tool brackets and the fine gratings in a way that would not be possible in plastic. The number in the name points out that another set follows on from this one. The set is intended for the Trumpeter kit.
The designation Sturer Emil was carried by an experimental self-propelled gun built on the Henschel VK 30.01 chassis, originally developed for a heavy tank. On the open superstructure rested a long 12.8 cm gun, able to destroy targets at a range where the enemy was all but defenseless. Only two were built and both headed for the Eastern Front in 1942, where they operated in the area of Stalingrad. One of them, christened Max by its crew, fell into Soviet hands in the winter of 1943 and has survived to this day as a museum exhibit.
Plan the work by subassembly and paint them before you join them, because a brush will not reach into the open fighting compartment later. Make the bends in the jaws of a bending tool, or at least over a straight steel edge. The scored grooves in the photo-etch show where the bend is meant to run.
The kit itself, putty and paints have to be bought separately.
