A kit of the Tiger I heavy tank in the form of the earliest production of the beginning of 1943. The essential feature of this set is the complete interior equipment: the engine, the transmission, the fighting compartment, the seats, the ammunition stowage and the inside of the turret. The model can therefore be built with the hatches open or with part of the hull left uncovered, so that you can see inside. Rye Field Model is among the makers who work on tank interiors consistently, and this set is one of their most extensive. Workable tracks assembled from individual links are included as well.
The Tiger I was a German heavy tank introduced in 1942. The earliest vehicles differ from the later ones in a number of particulars: they have a different arrangement of the commander's cupola, different exhaust covers, front headlights, a different treatment of the fenders and equipment for fording. It is exactly these differences that decide whether a model corresponds to a particular period or merely represents a Tiger in general.
A build with an interior has the order reversed: first the interior is finished and painted, and only then is the hull closed up. Lay the painting out in advance, therefore, and reckon with the fact that part of the work will not be visible in the end. Line the interleaved road wheels up dry; fitting them is the most laborious part on a Tiger. Put the track links together dry and only then join them. After varnishing, weather the model with a wash and pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
