1:35 U.S. Infantry Scout Set

U.S. Infantry Scout Set 1:35 (Tamiya)

An injection-molded plastic set of figures of American infantry scouts of the Second World War in 1:35 scale from Tamiya. It is a set of infantry figures rather than a vehicle, and the figures are captured in active, natural poses typical of reconnaissance and patrol duties. The set is an ideal addition to dioramas and to models of American vehicles. The package contains plastic sprues with the figures, their weapons and equipment, and decals.

The real subject

The set captures American infantrymen in the equipment typical of the later phase of the Second World War, including the characteristic field jacket and helmets. The figures are armed with period infantry weapons (for example M1 Garand rifles, the BAR automatic rifle and a submachine gun) and carry period equipment and accessories. Scouts were the eyes and ears of the infantry: they moved forward, found the position of the enemy and kept communication going, which is reflected in the dynamic poses of the individual figures.

Building and painting tips

Glue the plastic parts of the figures with liquid modeling cement for plastic and, where necessary, fill and lightly sand the joints in the clothing and the equipment, so that the parting lines disappear. Apply a primer before painting. To render skin, the olive field jacket and the equipment faithfully, painting in layers with the folds highlighted and the recesses washed proves its worth. Finish the small accessories and markings according to the instructions and the enclosed decals.
