1:35 U.S. jerricans set-WWII

American jerrycans in 1:35 scale

A set of American jerrycans from the period of the Second World War, 1:35 scale. This is an accessory for finished models of vehicles and for dioramas, not a kit. Jerrycans are among the most frequently seen equipment on vehicles, and in a display case you never have enough of them.

Where jerrycans belong

On a fender, in the brackets on the sides of the cargo bed, on the roof of an armored car, at a supply depot and simply in the grass beside a vehicle. It is exactly such small things that give a scene credibility: they break up empty areas, give the viewer a scale and suggest that the vehicle is really in use. A few pieces laid loose or stacked in a heap bring even a simple base under a model to life.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest back, so that the surface detail is preserved.
• Choose the glue according to the material of the parts; ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on resin and metal, so use cyanoacrylate.
• Before painting, wash the parts, degrease them and let them dry.
• Match the base tone to the color of the vehicle and only then play each piece differently, so that the jerrycans do not look like a single lump.
• Scuffed edges, scratches and a deposit of dust at the bottom turn a jerrycan into a used object; add the markings according to period photographs.
