A figure set in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian maker MiniArt. The package holds five figures of American officers in the uniforms and equipment of the Second World War, each in a different pose. The Special Edition designation belongs to the name of the line; these are injection-molded plastic castings with fine engraving of the folds and with separate heads, which allow the turn of a figure to be changed.
An officer's uniform differed from the equipment of the rank and file at first glance: a short jacket or a shirt with a tie predominated, trousers without puttees, a satchel or a map case instead of full combat equipment and visible rank markings on the collar or the shoulder board. It is figures like these that give a scene its hierarchy – without them a diorama looks like a group of people with nobody in command.
Glue the heads and arms on only once the torso has dried, as you will then tune the figures' lines of sight to each other more easily. Lighten the base olive-brown tone of the uniforms with a sand color on the tops of the shoulders and on the backs of the folds, and run a dark glaze into the recesses. Bring out the rank markings and insignia with a fine brush at the very end. The set suits a scene with a command car, at a map or in front of a headquarters building.
