Factory window frames for dioramas

An accessory for scene building in the form of industrial window frames. It is the large divided windows that turn a bare wall into a factory hall. Nothing else states the kind of building so reliably, because the division of the panes and the slender bars are recognizable at a glance even from a distance.

Where the frames fit

Into the wall of a production hall, a workshop, a locomotive shed or into the wall of a wrecked building where only the frame is left of the window. They come into their own in the build of a whole structure and as a backdrop behind a model, where a single wall with two windows is enough. The frames are intended for 1:48 as well as 1:35 scale, so before building, compare the size of the frame with the height of the figure or the vehicle you are preparing for the scene.

Building and painting tips

The frames are thin, so handle them flat and never try to straighten them over the edge of a table. Cut the surplus material and the marks from production away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest down. Wash and degrease the surfaces before painting; cyanoacrylate glue works well for the joints. A steel frame looks best with worn paint: lay down a dark base, a lighter opaque shade over it and then sand the edges gently so that the undercoat shows through. You can add the glazing yourself from clear film glued on from behind, or leave it in only some of the panes and show the rest as broken.
