An accessory set for models of German heavy vehicles in 1:48 scale. According to the name it holds a late type drive sprocket with nine teeth and an idler wheel and it is cut for kits by Tamiya. The target kit is given because it is the detail by which a customer can tell that the parts will fit his model without altering the mounting.
The Tiger II heavy tank and the Jagdtiger tank destroyer built on its chassis share their running gear and their tracks. The drive sprocket is at the front and has nine teeth, and the idler wheel is at the rear. During production the drive sprocket saw modifications, so an early and a late type are distinguished. The difference is clearly visible on a finished model, because the drive sprocket lies at the front of the vehicle, where the eye looks first, and the track changes direction on it.
Separate the parts carefully from their gates with a sharp knife or a fine saw, sand the cuts and degrease the surface before painting. They glue reliably with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger parts a brief dry-fitted trial helps. The base deserves a primer, and only then apply the base shade. The weathering is done as on the rest of the running gear, that is a dark wash in the recesses and pigments for dust and mud in the places dirt really reaches. On the drive sprocket, check the spacing of the teeth against the track you will use on the model, and keep some play while gluing until the track is seated. The teeth of the drive sprocket and the ring of the idler wheel tend to be rubbed to a metallic sheen, which is a rewarding detail at the end of the weathering.
