Air units all over the world pick one airframe that gets a conspicuous finish and travels with it to public displays. It tends to be a machine set aside for demonstrations, which once the season is over can go back to its ordinary finish. The motif usually refers to the badge of the unit, to an anniversary or to the place the unit flies from, and it differs from the standard gray scheme so markedly that even a layman remembers it. It is precisely such a pattern that the machine of the unit nicknamed the Bats carries.
First comes the base coat and under it a smoothly finished surface, because under a coat of paint every score is emphasized. Only then are the shapes laid on, and from the lightest shade to the darkest. The individual films are removed one by one, not all at once, otherwise you lose track of which area is done. The rest is finished by a gloss varnish, which levels out the unevenness of the edges.
This size is among the most widespread for military aircraft, so further equipment is easy to find. A span of around twenty-two centimeters makes it possible to render even small national insignia legibly. In 1:32 you could go further and work out the inside of the lift fan bay, the structure of the nozzles or the layering of the heat shields on the underside of the fuselage, because there the area is left for it. Here attention is better focused on the cleanness of the color transitions and on the sharpness of the edges, where the credibility of the whole model is decided.
