An add-on figure for the cab of the A/S-32A-31A tow tractor in 1:48 scale. A female person seated, cast resin, one piece.
Responsibility details are not available.
At 1:48 scale an adult human measures roughly thirty-five millimeters. That is exactly why figures of this size decide whether a diorama reads as a miniature or as a collection of parts: only beside a person does the eye grasp how big an aircraft or a tow tractor really is.
The source is the operator of the A/S-32A-31A tow tractor, that is the low four-wheeled tractor of US naval aviation. Its task is handling machines in a cramped space, where reversing is done to the centimeter and the driver turns behind over the shoulder. The person is modeled seated with her hands at the steering wheel, so as to capture that work even without movement.
With a part this small it pays to work with tweezers and to cut on a mat, so the person does not vanish into the carpet. After cutting, sand down the remainder of the sprue nub under the soles of the feet, rinse it and let it dry thoroughly. Cover it in thin coats from an airbrush, then take the facial detail further with a dry brush and a dark wash into the folds: at this scale contrast does more than variety. Knock the gloss back at the end with a matte varnish; resin after an airbrush tends to be noticeably more saturated than work clothing calls for.
