An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese fighter aircraft Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien in its late Kai form, that is the modified variant, in 1:48 scale from the Czech brand RS Models. It is a short-run kit with finely engraved lines, a well equipped cockpit, a separate propeller spinner and a multi-part ventral radiator. Take the exact subversion and the contents of the box from the instruction sheet in the box.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien, meaning swallow, was a Japanese fighter of the Second World War, unusual among Japanese types for its V-type liquid-cooled engine - which is why it had a slimmer nose than radial-engine fighters. The late Kai modifications brought a revised fuselage and armament. The Hien was used in defense against Allied raids and was among the faster and better armored Japanese fighters, although its service was complicated by trouble with the complex engine.
Short-run kits from RS Models are intended for more experienced modelers - count on cleaning the flash off the parts, dressing the mating surfaces and dry fits. Assemble and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage, and mask the glazing. Use thin liquid cement on the plastic and super glue on the fine parts. Apply a primer before painting; spray the metal or green upper finish with an airbrush and apply the decals onto a gloss clear coat with a decal softener.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
