Three marking options for the long-range version of the twin-engine heavy fighter deployed over Scandinavia, 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The long-range heavy fighter in its D version came about with the great distances over the sea and the cold weather in mind. That is exactly why it appeared with units operating in Norway, where it was to escort bombers and protect shipping and ground targets hundreds of kilometers from their home airfields.
The sheet offers three machines from the establishment of Zerstorergeschwader 76. Two of them come from its 9th and 8th Staffeln and are rendered in the appearance they had at the turn of 1940 and 1941 and in early 1941 respectively. The third option is the aircraft coded M8+KC, listed as the machine of the commander of the wing's second Gruppe, recorded at Stavanger in August 1941.
The D sub-version was built for long range, with additional fuel and with the corresponding changes to the fuselage and the racks. The Norwegian setting also meant a long winter, damp and salt air, so the machines often carried uneven wear and a scuffed finish, which are rewarding to capture on a model.
The letter codes of the units are large enough in 1:48 to stand out on the fuselage, and the sheet is completed by the usual warning stencils and markings. A dark green upper finish with a light blue underside is typical of this unit, on some machines completed by a striking painting on the nose.
A twin-engine airframe offers a large area for the codes, and so working with this sheet is rewarding even for a modeler who is still learning to apply decals. The most demanding part remains settling the markings on the undersides of the wings, where you have to work with the model upside down and hold the decal in place with a brush until it dries.
