The set serves to finish the interior of a model of the Mi-24P combat helicopter from the Zvezda kit. The decals are three-dimensional, that is with a relief surface, and they are stuck straight onto the parts of the cockpits. The instrument panels, the side panels and the distribution panels thus get detail that hand painting catches up with only with difficulty in this scale.
The Mi-24P belongs to the family of Soviet attack helicopters with two separate crew cockpits arranged one behind and above the other and with a compartment for transport behind them. The letter P tells apart the version with a fixed built-in twin-barrel cannon on the right side of the nose instead of the traversing machine gun turret that the V version carries. The rest of the airframe, the stub wings with pylons and the main features of the cockpits stay common to both. The interior is rich in round dials and switches and is clearly visible through the broken-up glazing, so it is worth investing in.
First paint the interior parts and spray them with a gloss varnish, and stick the decals only onto that. A matte surface traps air under the film and the edges silver. Release the decal in lukewarm water, place it with tweezers or a brush and soak the water from under it away with a cotton swab. Dose a decal softener in thin coats, as three-dimensional decals take less chemistry than thin sheets. Once it has dried, cover it with a matte varnish and lead any wash only into the corners and shadows, so that it does not dirty the dials. Get everything done before the fuselage is glued, as once it is closed up the cockpits are no longer accessible.
This is an accessory set of decals, not a kit. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the package unless stated otherwise.
