This is not an aircraft model but a replacement for its most visible parts: the propellers, the engines and the engine cowlings for the PBY-5, PBY-5A and OA-10A versions in 1:48 scale. The box states that the set is cut for the Revell, Monogram and Hasegawa kits, and adds that it is the version with a closed engine bay. The Ukrainian brand Reskit is based in Kyiv, has been active since 2015 and makes its sets as resin and 3D-printed parts; according to the supplier they come unpainted and unassembled.
The Consolidated PBY Catalina is an American twin-engined flying boat that was among the most widespread patrol aircraft of the Second World War. It was powered by Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp radial engines and, thanks to its large span and economical cruise, it could stay airborne for tens of hours. The PBY-5A version received retractable landing gear, so it could also take off from a hard surface, and under the designation OA-10A it was used by the US Army Air Forces for search and rescue. It is precisely the engine nacelles on the upper wing that are most visible on a model.
Wash the parts clean of print residue and cut off the supports; sand the marks down carefully and protect your breathing. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint the engines while they are still loose: the cylinder heads in a metallic shade, the block dark, and suggest the wiring with fine wire or a drawn line. Glue the propeller blades last and check that they all sit at the same angle, because on high-set nacelles every difference shows. Test-fit the cowlings dry before gluing.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
