Kitty Hawk 80144 Su-17 M3 and M4 is a 1:48 plastic kit of the Soviet fighter-bomber with a variable-geometry wing, with photo-etched parts and seven marking options.

An injection-molded plastic kit of a single-seat fighter-bomber with variable geometry of the outer wing panels. Both the M3 and the later M4 version can be built out of the box. A photo-etched fret is included, along with a well worked-out cockpit with an ejection seat and an engine that can be taken out and shown outside the airframe. The decals offer seven marking options, among them Soviet, Russian naval and Ukrainian machines.
The Su-17 came about by rebuilding the older Su-7 with variable geometry of the outer wing panels. It was a clever and economical solution: the fuselage stayed as it was, only the wingtips pivoted, and thanks to that the aircraft shortened its takeoff run and carried more armament. Power came from a turbojet with an afterburner. The M3 and M4 versions brought more modern equipment for directing the armament, and the M4 was the last and most widespread production form. The export counterpart carried the designation Su-22 and differed mainly in the make-up of its equipment.
Decide in advance which version you are building, because the parts on the spine and in the armament differ. Finish the cockpit before you join the fuselage halves. The engine can be displayed beside the model on a stand, but if you close it away inside you save yourself the work of getting the cover to seat. Glue the pivoting wingtips on only once the base color has dried, so that the joint does not get flooded. The camouflage of these machines has sharp edges, so use masking putty or cut stencils.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
