1:48 Westland Wessex HU.5 exhaust with FOD covers is a resin set of exhausts with protective covers for the model of the British helicopter. It is an accessory, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin set of exhaust pipes for the model of the British Westland Wessex helicopter in the HU.5 version in 1:48 scale. The castings have drilled mouths and thin walls, which injection-molded plastic cannot manage. The set also contains protective covers, which are fitted on the real machine while parked so that foreign objects cannot get into the pipes. A model with the covers fitted reads to the viewer as parked rather than ready for takeoff. It is not a helicopter model.
The Wessex came about as a license-built version of an American Sikorsky helicopter in which British designers replaced the piston engine with a turbine powerplant. The HU.5 version served the Royal Navy to carry the Royal Marines and had a pair of turbines, which gave it a reserve of power and safety if one engine failed. The exhausts run along the sides of the forward fuselage and are conspicuous in photographs, because there is clear heat staining around them.
Wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface with sandpaper, with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the mouth of the exhaust in a dark burnt shade and dirty the area around the pipe with soot; leave the covers clean and prominent, on the other hand.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
