A photo-etched brass detail set for refining the engine deck of a plastic kit of the Soviet IS-2 (JS-2) heavy tank in 1:48 scale. It is not a vehicle model but an accessory that replaces the molded plastic grilles with a fine photo-etched mesh you can really see through.
The Tamiya 32571 kit serves as the basis; it is bought separately.
The IS-2 (Iosif Stalin 2, JS-2 in the Western transliteration) was a Soviet heavy tank of the Second World War armed with a 122 mm gun. It was deployed from 1944 above all to break through German defenses and to attack fortifications. The cooling grilles on the rear deck of the hull are a prominent feature even in 1:48 scale, and a photo-etched replacement raises the realism there considerably.
Separate the small parts with a sharp knife or with photo-etch scissors and form the bends with a bending tool. Glue with cyanoacrylate, and degrease the metal and prime it before painting. Tweezers and an airbrush are recommended.
An accessory for advanced builders; the plastic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
