The British battlecruiser HMS Hood in her 1941 state in 1:700 scale from Flyhawk. A plastic kit of the ship.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the ship in her 1941 form, that is in the last year of her existence. Stating the year is fundamental with ships: superstructures, radar aerials, anti-aircraft armament and the paint scheme changed so much during her service that the same ship looked different in 1931 and in 1941. The maker is Flyhawk, a brand known for fine surface rendering and a large number of small parts, which is decisive in 1:700 scale.
HMS Hood was a British battlecruiser and, for two decades, the largest warship in the world. She was distinguished by her long slender hull and an impressive silhouette, thanks to which she became a symbol of the Royal Navy. Her weak point was the deck armor, which corresponded to the time of her building but was not enough against fire at long range, where the shells come down from above. In May 1941 she met a German force in the Denmark Strait and, after a hit in the area of the magazines, she sank within a few minutes.
In 1:700 scale the parts are very small, so work over a mat, with fine tweezers, and dose the glue with a point. Paint the hull and the deck separately before you fit the superstructures. Lay the dividing line of the hull out with masking tape and watch that it is at the same height on both sides. Fit the small guns and the masts at the end. Keep the weathering restrained; in this scale a heavy wash tends to flood the detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
