A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale with forty-eight figures of the Zouave regiments of the American Civil War in nine poses. It is supplied unpainted and is one of the most rewarding subjects of the whole conflict in terms of color.
The Zouave regiments took their appearance from the French units in Algeria: a short vest, wide trousers gathered at the knees, a sash and a headdress in the shape of a fez or a turban. In an army where blue and gray otherwise prevailed, they stood out as a splash of color, and both sides of the conflict raised them as elite formations. The appearance differed from regiment to regiment, because each one procured its uniform in its own way. In action the Zouave flamboyance soon proved a disadvantage, but it is precisely what wrote these regiments into history and into modelers' display cases.
This is a set where it pays to reach for rich colors. Build the red trousers up in layers over a light base, otherwise they stay muddy; the blue vest and the white gaiters then frame them. Because the finish differed from regiment to regiment you have a free hand, but keep one unit consistent. Leave the sash and the headdress for last, so that they are clean and sharp.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
