The EA-18G Growler is a two-seat electronic warfare aircraft derived from the carrier-based F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter. It is equipped with systems for jamming hostile radars and communications and with anti-radiation armament, which is how it protects US Navy formations. Squadron VAQ-131 Lancers is one of the US Navy units that operate the type from aircraft carrier decks as well as from shore bases. The Growler escorts strike packages and suppresses air defenses so that the other aircraft can carry out their missions at lower risk.
