A plastic kit of the 1:72 F-14B Tomcat from Hobby Boss: the re-engined version of the carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the two-seat Grumman F-14B Tomcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. The B version is the re-engined form of the original Tomcat, and it is the powerplant that sets it apart most from the most numerous A version.
The Tomcat was a twin-engine carrier aircraft with a variable-geometry wing, a two-man crew in tandem and two vertical tail surfaces. It was created as a carrier of long-range anti-air missiles meant to protect a carrier battle group far beyond its perimeter. The A version suffered from unreliable first-generation engines, so the US Navy had part of the fleet rebuilt with General Electric F110 series turbofans. The new variant was first designated F-14A plus and at the beginning of the 1990s received the designation F-14B. The stronger and less temperamental powerplant improved both the launch from the deck and the handling in maneuvers. The Tomcat remained in US Navy service until the middle of the first decade of this century.
On a two-seater the cockpit is visible along the whole length of the canopy, so finish it before closing the fuselage. With the movable wing, decide in advance whether you will build the machine in the deck position with the wing swept or in the flight position. For the naval gray camouflage, lay the paint on with an airbrush in thin coats, cover the surfaces with a gloss coat before the decals and unify the finish with a matte coat at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
