This item is a supplementary photo-etched set from Eduard intended to raise the detail of the plastic Grumman F-14D kit in 1:72 scale from Tamiya. It is not a stand-alone aircraft model but an aftermarket set of fine etched parts that is added to the base kit. To use it you therefore have to own the corresponding F-14D kit from Tamiya.
The Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat was the last and most refined version of the famous carrier fighter of the US Navy with a variable-geometry wing. Compared with the earlier variants it received more powerful General Electric F110 engines, modernized avionics and digital systems. The Tomcat served as a long-range interceptor protecting carrier groups and later in the strike role as well.
The etched parts replace or supplement plastic elements, which tend to be simplified even in a larger scale. Photo-etched metal adds a delicacy and fidelity to a model that plastic alone cannot allow. The parts are cut from the fret, bent and glued as a rule with cyanoacrylate; colored etched elements are clear coated only gently so the printing is not covered.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. The base F-14D kit from Tamiya is needed for assembly; glue and paints are not included in the package.
