1:72 French Dragoons 1805-1815

French Dragoons 1805–1815, 1:72 scale, Italeri

A plastic set of unassembled and unpainted figures of French dragoons from the Napoleonic Wars, in 1:72 scale. This is an injection-molded plastic figure set — riders and horses in a variety of poses, suitable for building, painting and diorama work. Italeri is a well-established Italian maker of plastic models and figures.

The real subject

Dragoons were versatile cavalry able to fight both mounted and on foot. In the French army of 1805–1815 they formed an important part of the Grande Armee. Their typical features were a crested helmet with horsehair, a straight sword and a carbine. The figures capture riders on the move and in the charge.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the figures and horses from the sprue and clean up the mold seams.
• Use a suitable cement or super glue on the softer plastic; apply a primer before painting.
• Paint with acrylics — a base coat, shadows in the folds and a dry brush on the edges.
• Watch the colors of the uniforms, helmets and horses; pick out the small details such as the straps and harness and the weapons.

Who the set is for
