The real subject

A late medieval French army was made up of armored knights on horseback as well as foot soldiers: lancers, archers and infantry with hand weapons. The era falls in the time of conflicts such as the Hundred Years War between France and England. The figures capture both knights and foot soldiers in combat and in motion.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the figures and horses off the sprue and clean up the mold parting lines and the sprue nubs.
• On the softer plastic use a suitable cement or cyanoacrylate glue; apply a primer before painting.
• Paint with acrylics: a base coat, shadows in the folds and a dry brush on the edges.
• Paint the armor in metallic shades with a dark wash; bring the coats of arms and surcoats to life with color and heraldry.
