A Royal Model brass photo-etched set for the Jagdpanther tank destroyer in 1:72 refines the late production form of the vehicle, from the grilles over the engine to the small grab handles.
Responsibility details are not available.
Thin metal parts from the Royal Model range add to a plastic model the elements that an injection mold cannot manage at this scale: perforated grilles, thin-walled fenders, eyes and clips. The set aims at the late production form of the vehicle.
The Jagdpanther, designated Sd.Kfz. 173, came about by setting the 88 mm Pak 43 gun into a low armored casemate on the chassis of the Panther tank. The result was one of the most balanced German tank destroyers: a powerful weapon, a well-sloped front and mobility close to that of the base tank. A little over four hundred were built, so on the battlefield it was a rarity. Late vehicles are told from early ones mainly by the form of the barrel collar, the arrangement of the outlets and details at the rear. They fought in Normandy, in the Ardennes and in the retreat battles in the east, where the crews often destroyed them themselves as soon as the fuel ran out.
Lay the photo-etched sheet on a hard, smooth surface and cut the parts out with a fresh blade. Make a longer bend in one go rather than in stages, otherwise the edge ripples. Wash the metal before painting and spray it with primer, otherwise the finish will slide off at the first touch.
The package holds only the photo-etched components, not the plastic vehicle itself.
