An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M4A3(76)W Sherman medium tank in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the version with the longer 76 mm gun in the larger turret and with wet ammunition stowage (W). The suspension is of the classic VVSS type with narrow tracks of the flexible (vinyl) kind, and a decal sheet is included.
The designation of this version gives away its main features: 76 means the longer 76 mm gun with greater penetration than the older 75 mm piece, and the letter W (wet stowage) means wet ammunition stowage, which reduced the risk of fire after a hit. The longer gun called for a larger turret. The vehicle stayed on the classic VVSS suspension with narrow tracks, unlike the later E8 versions with the wide HVSS suspension. The combination of a stronger gun and wet ammunition stowage belonged among the important improvements of the Sherman family.
Assemble the running gear with its VVSS bogies and wheels before closing the hull. Use thin cement, a primer and an airbrush; you will bring the olive green finish to life with dark washes into the joints and with pigments for dust and mud on the running gear and the sides.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
