A 1:72 decal sheet for three Romanian Bf 109G-2s from 1943 and 1944, completed by masks for the canopy glazing and for the spinner.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Royal Romanian Air Force received Bf 109G-2 Messerschmitts at a time when its home-built IAR 80s were already losing their breath against Soviet fighters. The machines with the yellow Michael the Brave crosses operated over the lower Don, over the Kuban and, from 1944, also against American formations heading for the oil fields at Ploiesti.
The sheet offers three such aircraft. The first is the white 1 of Adjutant Dumitru Encioiu of the 53rd Fighter Squadron of the 7th Fighter Group in 1943, the second the white 227 of Sub-lieutenant Ion Dicezare of the 9th Fighter Group from July 1944, and the third the white 5 of the same 7th Group, recorded in July 1943 at Taganrog. Two of them belong to the G-2/R6 version, which you can recognize by the underwing gondolas with MG 151/20 cannon. It was precisely that pair of barrels that made the Gustav a feared bomber destroyer, albeit at the price of noticeably poorer agility in maneuvering combat.
The printing is accompanied by masks for the cockpit canopy and for the spinner. The spiral and the frames of the glazing are therefore produced by spraying, which on a part a few millimeters across turns out better every time than tracing with a fine brush.
Use is straightforward: a finished Gustav in 1:72 scale, a smooth gloss coat on it and only then the printing. The aircraft kit itself has to be obtained separately.
The Romanian national insignia took the form of a yellow cross with a shield in the middle and its rendering shifted several times during the war. On a finished machine it is therefore worth comparing the marking applied with a period photograph of that particular aircraft.
