NASA AD-1 (1:72, FLY) is an injection-molded plastic kit of the unique experimental aircraft with an oblique pivoting wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from FLY captures the NASA AD-1 research aircraft with its unconventional pivoting (oblique) wing. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as an ordinary plastic kit meant for gluing and painting.
The AD-1 was built under the NASA Ames-Dryden program at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s to test the concept of the so-called oblique wing. The whole straight wing pivoted about a central pivot and could be turned to a pronounced angle, which reduced drag at higher speeds. The airframe was light, made of composites, and it was powered by a pair of small turbojets. It flew in the experimental program from 1979 to 1982.
Cut the small injection-molded parts off carefully and glue them with liquid cement for plastic. A base coat (primer), airbrush painting and a gloss coat before the decals are recommended. Pre-assemble the cockpit and the wing pivot mechanism dry before closing the fuselage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
