An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fighter Republic P-47C-5 Thunderbolt in the razorback form, in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov (KP). It is a short-run kit with finely engraved panel lines. This box captures the slightly later C-5 production subversion; the earlier C-2 subversion is covered by a separate model. Check the actual contents of the package against the box and the instructions.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a massive American fighter of the Second World War with a Pratt & Whitney radial engine and the nickname Jug. The early versions had what is called a razorback, the raised spine of the fuselage behind the cockpit. The C series was among the first Thunderbolts used in combat. The C-5 subversion is slightly later than the earlier C-2 and brought small changes to the equipment, among them a revised radio and instruments; on some machines the antenna mast was replaced by a whip antenna. Thunderbolts of this period operated above all over western Europe.
On a short-run kit, first clean the flash off the parts and test fit them dry before gluing, as the joints often need local filling and sanding back. Give attention to the seating of the radial engine, the canopy and the clear parts. Liquid cement for plastic, a primer and spraying with an airbrush are recommended.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
