Beech wood has a lighter tone and a finer, more regular grain. Many aircraft and accessories had surfaces of plywood and natural wood; a decal with a realistic grain structure makes otherwise demanding hand painting far simpler and evens the surface out.
Paint the base a light wood tone and coat it with gloss clear. Apply the decal in sections with a decal softener, so that the grain settles with no bubbles and no silvering; even the transitions out with glazes and finish with a semi-gloss coat.
This is a decal set (an accessory). Paints, clear coat and the kit are not included in the package.
