An injection-molded plastic kit of the German piloted version of the Fi 103 guided missile, known as the Reichenberg Re IV, in 1:72 scale from MAC Distribution. This is a piloted counterpart of the V-1 flying bomb, not an ordinary aircraft. The short-run model is supplemented by a photo-etched fret and a sheet of technical markings; according to the instructions it offers several color schemes. Given the character of the tooling it is intended for more experienced modelers. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
The Reichenberg came about at the end of the Second World War as a piloted conversion of the Fi 103 guided missile, that is of the V-1. A small pilot's cockpit was built into the fuselage, so that the pilot could guide the missile onto the target; it was assumed that he would try to bail out with a parachute at the last moment, which was practically suicidal. The Re IV version was the operational single-seat configuration with a pulsejet. Although several machines were built and prepared and test flights took place, operational use never came about and the project was stopped.
Clean the short-run parts up carefully and try them dry; glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Assemble the tiny cockpit and the glazing carefully, so that the unusual character of the machine stands out. The model can be displayed on a stand. Apply the color with an airbrush, add the technical markings from the decal sheet, pick out the panel lines with a fine wash and unify the surface with varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
