HäT 8018 hastati and velites is a 1:72 set with forty-eight figures of the two front ranks of the Republican Roman legion.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale with forty-eight figures. The breakdown is well thought out: sixteen velites, twenty-four hastati with a throwing spear and eight hastati with a sword, so from a single box you can build both the advance screen and the first fighting rank, including the moment when it closes to hand-to-hand combat. It is supplied unpainted.
The Republican legion formed up in three ranks according to age and experience. The velites were the youngest and poorest, fought dispersed, threw javelins and were there to provoke the enemy before withdrawing behind the line. The hastati formed the first fighting rank: they threw a heavy spear which bent on striking a shield and made that shield useless, and immediately afterwards attacked with the sword. Behind them stood the more experienced principes and finally the veterans. It was precisely this system of ranks that gave the legion the ability to fight long and to rotate its strength.
Sort the figures by role before painting and work group by group; the velites and the hastati differ in equipment and it pays not to mix them. Paint the shields separately, device and all, while you still have them loose in your hand. Darken the metal parts and lighten only the edges. The tunic will take variation between individuals, while the armor should be kept uniform.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
