HäT 1:72 Republican Romans - Princeps and Triari is a set of forty-eight figures of two lines of the Roman republican formation.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale from HäT. The box holds forty-eight figures in eight poses and covers two of the three lines of the Roman republican battle formation. The figures are unpainted. Together with the set of hastati and velites from the same maker they will make up a complete manipular legion of the Punic Wars.
The republican legion drew up in three lines by age and experience. In front stood the younger hastati, behind them the more experienced principes, and at the back the oldest triarii with a long spear, who went in only in the last resort. The principes fought with a short sword and the throwing spear, the pilum, and were protected by a large shield, the scutum, and by mail or scale armor. This flexible formation gave Rome the advantage over the solid phalanx.
Wash the figures, dry them and spray them with a flexible primer. Sort them into principes and triarii straight away, as they differ in armament and belong to different lines in the formation. The shields are the main area of color and it pays to paint a simple repeating pattern on them. Handle mail armor with a dark base and a dry brush, and keep the bronze fittings warmer than the steel ones.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
