HäT 8021 Roman cavalry is a 1:72 mounted set from the time of the Republican legion.
Responsibility details are not available.
A mounted set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale with figures of Roman horsemen and their horses. It belongs to the range devoted to the Punic wars and complements the legionary infantry sets in the same scale. It is supplied unpainted and unassembled, with the rider seated separately. The manufacturer does not state the number of pieces, so check it on the packaging.
The Roman cavalry of the Republican era was made up of members of the wealthiest class, who had to provide both horse and equipment themselves. It was weak in numbers and repeatedly lost in the field to the Carthaginian cavalry, especially to the Numidian horsemen; it was precisely the superiority in cavalry that decided Hannibal's victory at Cannae. The rider had no stirrups, which reached the Mediterranean only centuries later, so he stayed in the saddle by gripping with his legs. The weapons were a spear, a sword and a round shield.
Paint the horses before you seat the riders. Because the riders came from the wealthy class, they will take more varied colors and more metal detail than the infantry; pick out the helmet and the armor in a metal tone and make the cloak rich. Do not mix the horses into a single color. Unify the bases with a single tone; that bonds the group into one whole.
The figures are supplied unpainted and unassembled. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
