About product

U-Boot IX, electric motor section (1:72)

This is a resin detail set from CMK, not a submarine model. The set renders the electric propulsion section, with the electric motors, the controls, the piping and the deck plating, the compartment that drove the boat below the surface.

The real subject

The Type IX had diesel-electric propulsion. Below the surface the boat was driven by electric motors fed from extensive accumulator batteries, which were recharged by the diesel engines on the surface. Electric propulsion made a quiet and inconspicuous dive possible.

Fitting and painting

Separate the parts from the casting blocks, wash and degrease them. They are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue. Metallic shades on the motors, fine washes and traces of lubricating oil will give the compartment a realistic look.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building a Type IX submarine in 1:72
  • Anyone interested in technical interiors and the engine room
  • Advanced builders used to resin
  • Builders of cutaway models and dioramas

This is an aftermarket resin accessory, not a submarine model. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
