This is a sheet of wet (waterslide) decals in 1:72 scale, not a kit. The set brings the markings and personal names of M4A3 Sherman tanks with US Marine Corps (USMC) units as they operated during the landing and the fighting on the island of Iwo Jima. The decals complete a plastic model of a Sherman of the matching version with the authentic markings of particular machines.
The fighting for Iwo Jima took place early in 1945 and was among the hardest operations of the war in the Pacific. The M4A3 Sherman tanks of the Marine Corps carried characteristic tactical signs, national stars and often their own names painted on by the crews. A number of machines were modified against infantry antitank weapons with applique armor and cladding on the hull.
Overcoat the surface under a decal with gloss varnish so that it seats without silvering. Soak the cut-out decal in lukewarm water, slide it off the backing onto the model and position it. A decal softener will help it settle, and a final overcoat with matte or semi-gloss varnish will blend the markings with the surface.
